UK CharityLiving Streets is the UK charity for everyday walking. The charity has roots in the Pedestrian's Association, established in 1929. They played a huge part in introducing speed limits, zebra crossings and driving tests. Today Living Streets has a vision for a nation where walking is the natural choice for everyday local journeys and are on a mission to achieve a better walking environment and inspire people to walk more. Living Streets’ work focusses around three outcomes: People choose walking

Brighton and Hove Local GroupWe are a group of local residents aiming to promote the idea of Brighton and Hove as a walkable city, accessible to and enjoyed by everyone. In the 20th century, city planning was about planning for the car; in the 21st century we have learnt the importance of putting people and the quality of our environment first. We live in a great city and we can make it even safer, healthier, more sustainable, more practical, more sociable, more accessible, more inclusive and more welcoming to all residents, business and visitors by encouraging more people to use and explore it on foot. There has been a local Living Streets group in Brighton and Hove on and off for many years. Plans for the current group began to take shape late in 2020, in the midst of pandemic lockdowns. In the spirit of building back better, and based on the experience of enjoying walking in quiet, safe streets, it seemed the right time for a rebirth of a local Living Streets group. After nearly five years of work, we now want to build on that and are looking forward to the next stage in our development. We want to hear from you and understand how we can make our city more walkable. Visit the Contact Us page here. |
